Ventilation technologies

In short, ventilation technologies focus on supplying air to closed spaces and are a vital part of the technical infrastructure of buildings. Furthermore, this is divided into service air techniques (induction, suction, distribution and so forth) and ventilation system techniques used in rooms. The planning and implementation of ventilation in rooms (mechanical ventilation aided by ventilators) are pivotal for the future use or operation of industrial equipment, hospitals, as well as apartment buildings. Ventilation technologies, especially such used in rooms, therefore also ventilation equipment / installations used in rooms (RLT installations), have for decades now been one of Gebhardt-Stahl's key areas of operation. Our offer is based on various systems of air channel sections, consisting of flanged sections, as well as various assembly angles. The product range includes simple sections for air ducts without special prerequisites as to air-tightness, as well as protected Premium air channel sections, which correspond to class D air-tightness (certified by TÜV) without the need to use additional sealing.

Quality factors of our ventilation systems

Ventilation system air-tightness is divided in accordance with DIN EN 12237 and DIN EN 1507 into 4 classes. The classification from A (the lowest air-tightness class) to D is based on the air permeability rating. 

And so air-tightness class A foresees the permeability rating of (0,027 × p0,65 × 10-3) l/s/m2, air-tightness class B: (0,009 × p0,65 × 10-3) l/s/m2, while air-tightness class C only: (0,003 × p0,65 × 10-3) l/s/m2 and air-tightness class D allows for just: (0,001 × p0,65 × 10-3) l/s/m2. The permissible air flow that passes through class D air leaks is, for example, just one third of that of class C. Essentially, therefore, just a third of the air can escape in comparison with the permissible air escaping from leaks in the lowest air-tightness class.

Preparing air ducts of a high air-tightness class require the engineer to construct air ducts with the use of the proper know-how and materials.

 

 

Benefits of ventilation technology

Using such technologies makes sense for a number of reasons:

  • The whole ventilation system can be designed with smaller dimensions, which in turn allows for cost savings.
  • An airtight ventilation system uses much less energy during operation than non-airtight systems, because this significantly allows for a decrease in the power of the ventilator. Higher production costs of a tighter ventilation system are recouped in a very short period of time. This aspect is of key importance to building users.
  • The required and preferred volumetric flux is achieved, thus allowing for the appropriate air quality in rooms.
  • Thanks to energy saved, the whole ventilation system will protect resources more effectively and will allow for compliance with the Energy Efficiency Directive (German: EnEV).

 

The primary decision about the air-tightness class of a newly constructed ventilation system is made by the planner or the developer. Currently in Germany class B air-tightness is considered the norm. However recently more and more tenders / offers appear that require C or even D class air-tightness (for example, in rooms with the highest cleanliness class level). Regardless of what air-tightness class has been indicated / selected, Gebhardt-Stahl offers appropriate flanged sections which allow for a quick, reliable and low-cost assembly to achieve the required air-tightness.
